Review of Home Chef, meal delivery based service.

Disclosure. I was provided a complimentary meal.  As always, the opinions expressed are those of my own. The post may have affiliate links.

With such busy lives, sometimes it’s hard to figure out what to make the family for dinner. Something healthy, fast, not too expensive. When I heard about Home Chef, a Chicago, Illinois-based weekly meal delivery service company that delivers pre-portioned ingredients and recipes to subscribers in the United States, I was intrigued. Could this be the answer to the problems? I am glad to report back — YES!

See how I turned this

into this using Home Chef.

It was easy to do, healthy, and delicious! Things that are a necessity with our busy lives.

I placed the order on Home Chef’s website and it was pretty simple to follow. On the left side of the screen shows the calendar which is helpful because each week has different meals listed. I simply chose the week I wanted to receive my delivery.

I didn’t like that they prepopulated each week with meals I didn’t pick. I believe it has something to do with the preferences I picked in the beginning. Also, you are required to pick a meal each week. I just kept removing the meals as needed. I had a difficult time choosing and emailed their customer service, and they were happy to help me out. They ended up placing the order for me.

In the end, I chose two meals – Thai Turkey Lettuce Wraps and Sirloin Steak and Shishito Pepper Skewers.

Packed well. One of my original concerns with food ordering services is if it can stay fresh and not spoil. My worries were unfounded when I saw the contents of the box surrounded by this cushioned material. The items were kept cool with ice packs.Since I ordered two meals, each meal was wrapped in its own bag and clearly labeled.

Fresh ingredients. All the ingredients are super fresh. Even the lettuce still had its roots in dirt. First time I’ve seen anything like this.

Easy to follow. I loved these color recipe cards. Everything is laid out well and easy to follow. Plus, I totally loved that it was already punched with 3 holes so I could add to my own binder.

Pre-portioned! Don’t need to bust out your measuring cups – the ingredients are already measured for you!

Delicious. Both things we ordered were so delicious and packed with so much flavor.

Pretty large portions.  When ordering, each meal is supposed to serve 2 servings but we found that it could feed our family of 5! We just rationed out smaller portions.

Bottom Line:

I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with Home Chef. From the careful packaging and fresh ingredients to the easy to follow directions, everything was great. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the service to anyone.
