Excited is an understatement of how we felt before leaving on our very first road trip to Cleveland, Ohio with our 2-year-old and 7-month-old. At the same time, we were getting nervous about having the kids in the car for 7 hours. Sure, we’ve traveled to other places like Rock Island and Wisconsin, but nowhere more than 3 hours away.

Since the trip from our wee little suburb outside of Chicago to Cleveland took about 7 hours, we thought we would split the driving time in half by spending the night in Indiana. Elkhart Indiana, in fact. Not wanting to spend a fortune to literally sleep on a bed for a few hours, I turned to my oldie but goodie favorite travel website – Priceline. After a few clicks of a button, I was able to get a room for half of what it normally cost. Our destination – the Jameson Inn Elkhart, Indiana.

Having never heard of the Jameson Inn, I didn’t know what to expect. My worries were put to rest as soon as we walked into the hotel. Checking in was quick and painless. Upon entering our room, I was pleased to see that the playpen that I had requested a few days ago was already waiting for us in our room. The spacious rooms are nicely furnished with a desk. A definite plus was seeing a microwave and mini fridge. We all had a comfortable night’s sleep on the plush, comfortable beds. They even had free Wi-Fi. My only quip is that the rooms were on the dark side.

Breakfast was included in the rate and I was expecting a typical continental breakfast with just muffins, fruit, and cereal.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that their continental breakfast included a make-your-own waffle station, biscuits and gravy, cereal, eggs, bagels and more. I would definitely wake up early to take advantage of the breakfast as some of the items had run out when I arrived.

Though we didn’t really have time to explore the area, we did see plenty of places to eat around the vicinity such as the Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster, Culvers and more. The location was very convenient as it was just off the highway.

Bottom Line: Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, especially if I’m able to score a deal again! What a great value for a clean, spacious room that includes a fridge, microwave, comfortable bed and Wi-Fi!

Check out the what we did on our first day in Cleveland!
