….the Fox River that is. The Fox River is no stranger to us. We live really close to it and we’ve been on numerous bike trips and jogs on the path that runs parallel to it.We thought we’d see a different side of the river by going on a Paddlewheel Riverboat Tour down in St. Charles. I’ve been meaning to check out the Paddlewheel Riverboats ever since I read the article by one of my fav bloggers at Go West Young Mom.

Nitty Gritty: The Paddlewheel Riverboats are part of Pottawattomie Park in St. Charles. There is a friendly person at a table right outside where the boat is docked that will take your payment. The admission is $7 each adult and they do accept credit cards. There is a pretty big parking lot at Potowattomie Park, but since it is shared with the waterpark and mini golf course, it was pretty hard to They have a few departures daily. Check their schedule for times. People brought their stroller and parked it on the bottom level of the boat.
The Fun: We had the opportunity to ride on the St. Charles Belle on a Sunday in August. The boat has two levels and we (and everyone else) chose to stay on the second level. The boat brings you north on the Fox River and then goes back down to the dock. The ride is not narrated the entire time, only when we pass certain landmarks. It was a beautiful day out, so people had there jet skis and boats out. It made for great people watching. The ride was about fifty minutes, and was short enough for my toddler to stay entertained. If it were any longer, my son would have started getting antsy.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend to anyone. It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon and also explore what St. Charles has to offer. The Riverboats were only one part of what Pottawattomie Park offered. If we had more time, we would have liked to check out the mini golfing, playgrounds, paddleboats or even have a picnic there. We will be back!
